III. HOLY SPIRIT

A) We believe that God the Holy Spirit is not an influence or power but a person. John 14:16-17; and 4:24

B) The Holy Spirit is part of the Triune God that lives with us. 1 John 4:13 and Acts 1:5

C) The Holy Spirit is equal with God the Father and Christ the Son in power, glory, and substance. 1 John 5:7

D) We believe that the Holy Spirit was present at the time of Creation. Gen. 1:2

E) We believe that His function is to bring mankind to Christ that they might be saved. 2 Thess. 2:13; John 3:5-8; and 1 Cor. 12:3

F) He was sent to believers by Christ after His ascension. John 16:7; 1 Peter 1:12; and Gal. 4:6

G) He was evidenced at Pentecost, the birthday of the church, by wind, flames of fire, and gifts of tongues. Acts 2:4

H) The Holy Spirit is ...the Spirit of truth that leads men into truth. John 14:17 and 16:13, 1 John 5:6

I) ...the Spirit of knowledge Isaiah 11:2

J) ...the Comforter John 14:26

K) ...the Spirit of Holiness Romans 1:4

L) The Holy Spirit can grieve. Eph. 4:30

M) The Holy Spirit convicts, guides and speaks to us. Acts 3:12

N) He opens the meaning of the Word to us. 1 Cor. 2:10 and 12

O) He reminds us of what God the Son would have us to remember. John 14:26; and John 15:26

P) He is the Father of Jesus. Matthew 1:18

Q) He was first evident in Jesus’ life at His baptism. This was the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. Luke 3:22

R) He gives us the power to witness. Romans 15:19

S) He tells us what to say. Mark 13:11 and Luke 12:12

T) He is the Head Elder of the Church. Rev. 2:7; Acts 15:28 and 16:6

U) The Holy Spirit calls the leaders of the Church. Acts 20:28

V) The Holy Spirit gives to believers...guidance. Acts 8:29, 10:19, and 16:7

W) ...wisdom 1 Cor. 12:8 and 1 Tim. 4:1

X) ...liberty 2 Cor. 3:17

Y) ...access to the Father Eph. 2:18 and 22

Z) ...strength. Eph. 3:16
