IV.
BAPTISM
A) We believe that Baptism is:
an act of obedience. Luke 12:50 and Matthew 20:22-23, 28:19
B) symbolic of a believer's death to the flesh and new life in Christ.
Colossians 2:12 and Romans 6:3-8
C) an ordinance of the Church but not necessary for salvation. Romans 5:10, 18
and Ephesians 2:4-9; Acts 19:1-7; Acts 2:41; I Cor 1:17
D) symbolic of the burial of sin and a cleansing by the washing of the living
water. Acts 22:14-16
E) Since Baptism is not an act of salvation, infant baptism is not necessary. We
believe in the parents dedicating themselves to train an infant in the truths of
Christ. Proverbs 22:6
F) We believe in bringing an infant before the family of believers to dedicate
it to the Lord. 1 Samuel 1:27-28
G) We believe that a person should be baptized before joining the Church,
uniting with the body of Christ. Eph. 4:5; 1 Cor. 12:13 and Gal. 3:26-29
H) It is proper for a person, after they have received Christ as their Savior
and Lord, to be Baptized as a witness to that belief. Acts 10:47-48
I) As we surrender in obedience our will to God's will other gifts or the gift
of God's Spirit can be given. Acts 2:38 and 19:3-6
J) The method of Baptism as indicated through the Gospel and apostolic practice
is immersion. John 3:23; Mk 1:10; Acts 8:36
