XIV. DEATH A) We believe that- death is a result of sin. Romans 5:12; Romans 8:6; and 1 Cor.15:21 B) until there was sin man did not die. Genesis 3:24 and James 1:15 C) the body of man is mortal; that is from the dust. Genesis 2:7 D) the soul of man is immortal; that is it never dies. Matthew 22:32 E) We believe that there is a Heaven and a Hell. Luke 12:5 F) We believe at death the soul of the believer passes immediately into glory (paradise). Luke 16:22; Luke 23:43; and 1 Thess.4:14 G) Their bodies rest in the grave until the resurrection. 2 Cor. 5:6-8; 1 Thess.4:16; and John 5:28-29 H) At the time of the resurrection these bodies will be glorified and reunited with the soul. Romans 8:23 and 1 Cor.15:42-44, 53-57 I) These glorified bodies will be in the presence of the Lord forever (no more death). 2 Tim. 1:10; Rev. 21:4; and John 6:47 J) A believer need never fear a spiritual death. Spiritual death is separation from God, but is not extinction. 2 Thess.1:9 K) However, unbelievers will be separated from God forever. All unbelievers will stand before the great white throne and will be judged. Rev. 20:11-12 L) They will then be cast into the lake of fire. They will exist in that condition for all eternity. Annihilation of the wicked dead is not taught in the Bible. Matthew 25:41-46; Mark 9:43-44 and Rev. 20:10 M) This is the Second Death spoken of in Rev. 20:6. Rev. 2:10-11 Rev. 20:6. Rev. 2:10-11 N) The last enemy that Christ defeated was death! Death is swallowed up in victory. 1 Cor. 15:54-55
