VI. GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT A) We believe that the Father knows how to give good gifts to His children. Matthew 7:11 B) The greatest gift of God is Eternal life. Romans 6:23 C) When God gives a gift it is forever. Numbers 23:19 and Romans 11:29 D) We believe that God has gifts for all of His followers. 1 Cor. 1:7 E) In turn, we believe that when God gives a gift, He intends that the believer use that gift to benefit the Family of God. 1 Tim. 4:14 F) The gifts that we receive are from or a result of Christ's victory. Eph. 4:7-12 and Psalm 68:18 G) The gifts of the Spirit are listed in at least two places in the Bible. In Romans 12:4-8 these gifts are identified as: H) Prophecy (Acts 11:27) I) Ministry (Acts 6:1-3) J) Teaching (Eph. 4:11) K) Exhortation (Acts 15:32) L) Giving (Matthew 6:1-3) M) Ruleth (Acts 20:28) N) Mercy (2 Cor. 9:7) O) In 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 the following gifts are listed: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 P) Word of Wisdom (Acts 5:3 and 1 Cor. 2: 6-7) Q) Word of Knowledge (John 13:7; Col. 2:3; and 1 Cor. 8:1) R) Faith (Matthew 17:19-20 and 2 Cor. 4:13) S) Healing (Mark 16:18; Acts 14:8-10 and James 5:14-15) T) Miracles (Mark 16:17 and Gal. 3:5) U) Prophecy (Rom. 12:6; Acts 21:10-11; 1 Cor. 14:1,3 and 1 Thess. 5:20) V) Discerning of Spirit (1 Thess. 5:20-21; 1 John 4:1; 1 Cor. 14:29; 1 Tim. 4:1; Matthew 24: 4-5; and Acts 16: 16-18) W) Tongues (Acts 2:4; 1 Cor. 14:22; 1 Cor. 14: 27-28; Acts 19:6) X) Interpretation (1 Cor. 14:27-28) We believe that we are to seek and to ask for the Gifts of the Spirit but, we do not believe that the gifts are as important as the Giver. Our first aim must always be to know God and to love and serve Him. |
