XII. MARRIAGE A) We believe that God instituted marriage between a man and a woman. Gen. 2:18; Proverbs 5:18-20 B) God created man in His own image; male and female He made them and blessed them. Gen. 1:27; 5:2 C) Christ teaches that for this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife and the two will become one flesh. Gen. 1:27; Matthew 19:4 D) We Believe each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. 1 Corinthians 7:2 E) The husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the Head of the Church. Ephesians 5:23-33 F) Husbands and wives are members of one body in Christ. Ephesians 5:30 G) We believe sexual relationships that are not in accordance with the institution of marriage as defined by the Bible are immoral and acts of the sinful nature. Leviticus 18; 19:10-21; 20:17-19; Numbers 25:1; Deuteronomy 27:21; Judges 19:22; Matthew 15:19; Mk. 7:21; Romans 13:13; 1 Corinthians 6:13; 18; 10:8; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 1:7; Revelation 2:14; 20; 9:21 H) At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage. Matthew 22; Mark 12:25; Luke 20:35 I) God hates divorce. Malachi 2:16; 1 Corinthians 7:12-14; 27 J) Christ teaches that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.
